Cars aren’t what they used to be!’ I’m of the old school & would prefer the older car over the newer ones. Maybe it’s just because I love a Bargain, but with times a changing you can get a big bargain with whatever you’re looking for! Government incentives on new vehicles have made it a lot more affordable for everybody as the rich get new vehicles & are selling the second hand ones its putting a lot more out there bringing down the price of used cars & right through the range to the largest of trucks.
So whether you’re shopping for a new or a new 2nd hand car shop around. Remembering what you buy today is not going to last as long as the good old cars An example of this is I bought an old 1940 Chevy a few years back to restore; when I went to check it out it was sitting out in the paddock on a steep hill & on an Ants nest where the owner said it had been sitting for around the last 40 years. Which he informed me it had been drive & parked there…..
That got me thinking if that had been driven there, there was the possibility of it running, so this I looked into as where it was sitting would have been very hard to move or winch onto a Trailer. Of course it had 4 flat tires, all rubber hoses were perished, a number of holes in the fuel tank as there weren’t a fuel cap on the spout. So I went & got prepared for the day of pick up. I went back with a compressor, a boat fuel tank, a bit of fuel hose, battery & some tools.
Full of excitement I set about getting it ready to be moved off the ants nest. I pumped the tires up whilst still on the car & would you believe it they stayed up long enough to move it. I set the fuel tank up on the front guard, connected it up to the fuel pump, pressurized the line, connected a battery up & with no key I shorted it out across the starter motor It turned over to no surprise I did that 4 times & it started, it was as ratterly as there was no oil up in the motor but only after a few seconds the oil pump had pumped the original oil up through the motor & it settled down sat there & idled.
Now you try & do that with new cars of today it just wouldn’t happen! New cars of today sitting out in a paddock would deteriorate very quickly so to attempt something like this would have been totally out of the question. Don’t you just love the old car where as you don’t have to get around all the modern electronics of today’s modern cars.
